Originally sold in two flavors: lemonade and fruit punch, Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets were considered to be easy to use and popular. Since then, things have changed because of the fact that Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets were one of the 14 popular Hydroxycut products to be recalled in May of 2009. the US FDA strongly urged and warned consumers at that time to stay away from all Hydroxycut products, after which the entire Hydroxycut line underwent serious renovations.
While nobody could specify exactly which product it was, meaning that it could have been Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets or any one of the 14 competitors, the FDA received 23 separate reports of serious side effects associated with consumers who reportedly took the recommended dosages and no more. Reports generally included liver injury, liver damage requiring liver transplant, seizures, cardiovascular disorder, and rhabdomyolysis, which is the severe breakdown of the skeletal system typically associated with severe chemical exposure.
It was never reported which products he was using, but there was one death of a 19 year old boy taking undisclosed Hydroxycut products. He reportedly died of liver failure. However, neither MuscleTech or the FDA ever released a statement as to which ingredient was responsible for all of these reported problem.
